GUATEMALA – In the wake of the failure of the world to end at the end of the 13th baktun, Mayan astrologers are meeting with former American religious broadcaster Harold Camping to discuss strategies for revising their Armageddon forecast.
Camping, 91, president of the Family Radio group between 1958 and 2011, has twice predicted the end of the world on the 21st day of the month, namely in May and October of 2011.
“Mr. Camping has valuable experience in rescheduling the destruction of the planet,” said an unnamed Mayan spokesperson. “We are hoping to learn how we can wipe the apocalyptic egg off our face and put out a new end-of-the-world date without looking foolish. Currently we are looking at excuses ranging from leap days to the Gregorian calendar shift. And rounding to the nearest 144,000 could conceivably introduce some slop.”
“I told them to go ahead and give another date for their doomsday,” said Camping. “After all, it’s not like their first date was carved in stone.”
